Potential for China's meat production to reach 89 million tonnes by 2025
China has laid out targets for meat and pork productions in its latest plan to advance the country's agriculture industry.
Meat production in China could reach 89 million tonnes by 2025, according to targets laid out in its plan to advance agricultural and rural modernisation during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025). This would represent an average growth of 2.8% in five years from the 77.5 million tonnes produced in 2020.
The plan also stated that the Chinese government wants to stabilise pork production capacity at about 55 million tonnes to prevent fluctuations in production.
China produced 41 million tonnes of pork in 2020.
