UK will reject Canada's hormone treated beef in trade talks
The UK is expected to reject Canada's hormone treated beef in trade talks between both nations, The Telegraph reported.
A spokesperson for UK's Department for International Trade said maintaining the UK's high food safety and animal welfare standards is important in trade negotiations and imported food and drink must comply with import requirements.
Citing government sources, the report said ending a ban on hormone treated beef is unlikely. Canada's trade minister said they will push for the UK to ease its strict standards on hormones.
Agricultural products are projected to be part of the main agenda of items to discuss between the UK and Canada, part of of post-Brexit trade discussions that are set to happen in April.
