USDA releases final import rules on BSE
USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) issued a final rule on animals and animal products' import regulations, which describes a new system for classifying regions in other countries as having negligible, controlled, or undetermined risk for bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE).
The classification uses a science-based system consistent with the World Organization of Animal Health. The rule prescribes the conditions under which certain commodities may be imported into the US from regions that have been designated as having negligible, controlled or undetermined risk for the disease.
