Cargill buys grain silo in Drobeta Turnu Severin, Romania
Cargill has bought a 44,000-tonne capacity grain silo in Drobeta Turnu Severin, Romania.
This purchase brings Cargill's silo network to 18 facilities, increasing its capacity by 8% to 500,000 tonnes. The second largest silo operator on the local market is Alfred C. Toepfer with 100,000 tonnes in eight silos.
Cargill holds two silos in Galati county, near Danube and another one near the county of Vrancea. In the county of Braila, Cargill operates a silo located five kilometres from the Danube. In the county of Calarasi, Cargill has a strong presence in terms of storage capacity, operating five silos. Of all the silos in Ialomita, the one at the nearby town of Fetesti, lies on the Danube, while the other three are located on E60 (Urziceni-Slobozia-Bucuresti-Constanta), the most used route Bucharest-Constanta route before construction of A2 motorway. In Teleorman, Cargill has adopted a strategy similar to that of Ialomita.
