US state Georgia hopeful of boost in poultry export to Cuba
Georgia's poultry sector hopes that a change in Cuba's leadership would lead to a positive market growth.
Mike Giles, senior vice president of the Georgia Poultry Federation, said the trade relationship between agricultural producers in the US and Cuba is strong and he expects it to continue after the change of leadership.
Toby Moore of the US Poultry & Egg Export Council said the change of leadership might lead to the relaxation of US policies, which would be good for trade.
Tommy Irvin, Commissioner of Agriculture, is equally positive about the prospect of Georgian exports to Cuba.
Cuba is the sixth largest poultry export market for the US, accounting for 95,504 tonnes of broilers in 2007, valued at US$76.4 million.
