Cambodia's PM recognises efforts in fighting fisheries crimes

Cambodia Prime Minister Hun Manet on February 16 commended the efforts of relevant institutions, sub-national administrations, local authorities, and armed forces in combating fisheries crimes, which have contributed to a significant increase in fish stocks this year.

Writing on his social media account, Manet noted that this year, fisheries have seen a significant increase, ensuring a sufficient supply of quality fish at affordable prices for citizens. He wrote that one of the key factors contributing to the increase in fish production this year is the efforts of relevant institutions, sub-national administrations, local authorities, and the active participation of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces in jointly combating fisheries crimes, particularly large-scale illegal fishing activities.

"This result has been highly appreciated by our fishermen, who in the past have suffered from large-scale fishing violations that negatively impacted the fish yield of small-scale fishermen," Manet wrote.

"I would like to thank all the experts at both the national and sub-national levels, local authorities, and all branches of the armed forces who have worked together to achieve this goal, benefiting our fishermen and improving the efficiency of fish resource management in Cambodia."
