DuPont announces new shrimp pathogen detection system

DuPont Animal Health Solutions has announced a new product line which will provide shrimp pathogen detection to the farm.

The DuPont Virkon Aquatic Biosecurity Monitoring System (VABMS) provides an integrated solution for pond -site shrimp pathogen diagnostic testing that detects viruses impacting shrimp health and farm productivity.

Clean & Disinfect global business director Paolo Barbieri said VABMS presents shrimp farmers with a faster and improved solution for early White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) detection in their ponds.

The system provides farmers and producers a next generation diagnostic tool for on-site disease diagnostic, biosecurity monitoring and productivity improvements.

WSSV test kit is part of the VABMS product line designed for pathogens important to the shrimp aquaculture industry.

It also delivers the fast test results among Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) methods and its test sensitivity is superior to other field methods such as immunoassays.

The VABMS test detects viruses at an early development stage which allows for meaningful intervention, offering farmers a faster response to improve and proactively guide grow-out management.

DuPont Thailand managing director Somchai Laohverapanich said that since Thailand is one of the world's leading producers and exporters of shrimp products, the company sees that this new product line will benefit the economic health and overall sustainability of the shrimp manufacturing value chain.

The test kit includes sample Preparation Reagent for the extraction of viral DNA from the sample materials, amplification Reagent for the PCR reaction, a detection reagent and detection strip for analysis.

DuPont Thailand provides products and services that are vital to industries like food and nutrition, agriculture, medical and health.
