Cherkizovo chooses Hypor swine genetics

In a press statement from Hendrix Genetics, Cherkizovo Group, Russia's largest meat producer, has signed a long-term cooperation agreement with the company.

Cherkizovo Group will populate their swine production systems with Hypor breeding animals to start a BioHypor breeding programme.

Cherkizovo Group and Hendrix Genetics share a commitment to sustainability at each stage of the value chain. By working together, the two companies aim to provide high quality protein for the Russian market, both in terms of food safety and producer value. The local availability of large quantities of gilts addresses a large integrator's need to be able to stock new constructed farms in face of a health challenge.

Hendrix Genetics will be implementing a programme known as BioHypor, an advanced sow self-replacement system designed to increase total system profitability through accelerated distribution of top genes, detailed information sharing, enhanced biosecurity and comprehensive technical and genetic support.

Brad Heron, director of Operations at Cherkizovo Group, says, "The selection of Hypor genetics represents a commitment to the Russian market. The Hypor Libra sow meets our expectation of producing a 6.2kg wean pig without any additional supplements by day 20 and is capable of efficiently achieving market hog status of 135kg with the lowest cost of gain. We are looking forward to working closer with the Hypor team with our purchase of 25,000 gilts."

Denis Okhrimenko, regional director Russia and Custom Union Countries of the Swine Business Unit of Hendrix Genetics, adds, "The Hypor Libra sow gives the highest quality piglets that easily become valuable finishers. The balance between the sow's prolificacy and reproductive efficiency results in a commercial sow that produces and weans a high number of uniform piglets during her lifetime. All without compromising her ability to produce the next litter."
