5,800 ducks to be culled due to bird flu outbreak in Bulgaria

Food safety agency authorities said the H5N8 bird flu virus was reported on a duck farm at Rakovski, south Bulgaria, reported Reuters.

According to a statement from the agency, all of the farm's 5,830 ducks will be culled to prevent the spread of the virus.

This is the first case of H5N8 bird flu in Bulgaria in 10 months.

The agency has imposed additional measures to curb the spread of the virus, which includes setting a 3 km protection zone around the farm to ban movement of birds domestic and wild in the vicinity. Sales of poultry of eggs within the 3 km zone are also prohibited.
