Investments expected for UK's low-carbon eggs
Respectful Eggs, the world's first low-carbon eggs, has reported sales of US$2.9 million in less than a year of trading in the UK.
The success of the brand means that it is likely to receive much investment. Brand owner, Stonegate Farmers, is already set to earmark US$980,700 for Respectful Eggs' marketing expenditure for 2008.
Respectful Eggs were first released in selected ASDA stores for trials but they are now available in all stores as an alternative to standard free-range eggs without incurring price premiums.
Richard Cannock, sales director at Stonegate said the brand's volume growth has been five times the market rate after only eight months of trading.
Respectful Eggs are produced on farms powered by carbon-neutral, renewable energy sources such as wind turbines and solar panels, which reduce the amounts of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere.
