Australian 2009-10 soy output revised down

An estimate of Australian soy production from the 2009-10 crop was revised down as a result of plantings failing to meet an earlier forecast.

National soy production now is forecast at 52,475 tonnes, down 17% from an estimate a month ago, and barely half of actual output of 101,500 tonnes from the crop planted last crop year ended March 31, 2009, the Australian Oilseeds Federation said in a monthly crop report.

The federation represents growers, processors, marketers and users.

With the 2009-10 canola harvest now complete, the federation said it will issue final output figures in the March report. In January, it estimated national canola output in 2009-10 at 1.91 million tonnes.
