Ukraine's pig, poultry numbers up; cattle, sheep down
The number of pigs in Ukraine on February 1 was 7.9 million, 13 percent more than on the same date last year, the state statistics committee reported Thursday (Feb 15).
The number of poultry at the same date was 160.4 million, an increase of 4.6 percent compared with Feb 1, 2006.
The number of cattle in the country was 6.2 million, a fall of 3.6 percent on year.
The number of sheep and goats fell by 1.6 percent to 1.6 million.
In the last few years a number of serious investors entered the pork and poultry markets and considerable financial resources have been invested in upgrading the existing facilities and creating new ones.
