Philippines launches poultry farming project in Palawan

The Philippines' Department of Agriculture's Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) has launched a PHP 2.6 million (US$46,400) project to support local poultry farming in Palawan province, focusing on enhancing chicken egg production in the region, Philippine Information Agency reported.
Targeting three associations in Magsaysay and Agutaya municipalities, namely the Rizal Rural Improvement Club (RRIC), Rizal-Lucban Farmers Livelihood Association (RLFLA), and AbBaCa Farmers Association Agutaya, the initiative aims to provide essential resources to boost poultry farming.
At the core of the project is the acquisition of 290 ready-to-lay chickens, along with 10 chicken cages, 150 bags of high-quality feed, and 24 bottles of veterinary medicines and vitamins. These resources are strategically allocated to optimize poultry production capacity.
The distribution of chickens is expected to address the urgent needs of local farmers in Palawan, offering a viable alternative for livelihood enhancement. Ready-to-lay chickens are renowned for their high egg production potential, quick maturity, and resilience, making them suitable for small-scale poultry operations.
According to recent reports from the beneficiary associations, the project has yielded a net income of PHP 132,110 (US$2,300) from the sale of 23,250 eggs between November 22, 2023, and January 26, 2024.
Local beneficiaries hope that increased local egg production will reduce reliance on external sources and provide fresher and more affordable eggs to their communities, benefiting both producers and consumers alike.
