Bird flu outbreak in Spain sees more than 130,000 hens culled

Authorities in Spain have culled more than 130,000 hens after a bird flu outbreak was discovered at a farm in the northern region of Castile and Leon, Reuters reported.

The local veterinarians' association said appropriate measures for slaughtering and disposing the animals' remains were completed on the farm, which is isolated.

A 10km isolation zone has been imposed around the farm, which is located 130km northwest of Madrid.

Bird flu outbreaks have been reported in Britain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Serbia.

According to Spain's Agriculture Ministry, five smaller outbreaks have been detected in farms and a dozen among wild populations in 2022.
