Russia's January grain export up 2.6 times on-year
Due to adverse weather conditions which disrupted loading at the country's sea ports, Russia exported 1.15 million tonnes of grain in January compared with 2.43 million tonnes in December, the Agriculture Ministry said.
In January of this year, the volume of grain exported was about 2.6 times the amount exported in January 2013, as reported by Wall Street Journal.
In January, wheat export totalled 680,000 tonnes, down from 1.53 million tonnes in December, the export of barley fell to 35,000 tonnes from December's 137,000 tonnes. The export of corn fell to 408,000 tonnes from 682,000 tonnes in December.
Russia in total exported about 17.535 million tonnes of grain between July 1 2013, the beginning of the current marketing year, and January 31, which is about 29% more than in the corresponding period in the previous marketing year.
In 2013, Russia harvested 89.3 million tonnes of grain in clean weight, 30% more than in 2012, when 68.7 million tonnes was harvested because crops were damaged by drought. In the 2012-13 marketing year, Russia's grain export fell to 15.69 million tonnes from 27.2 million tonnes in the previous marketing year. In July 2013-June 2014, the agriculture ministry expects Russia's grain exports to rise to 20 million tonnes.
