Russia is largest importer of Norway's seafood

Russia is the largest export market for Norwegian seafood for the first time.

Figures from the Export Council for Fish show that seafood valued at NOK 302.5 million was exported to Russia in January, an increase by 45 per cent over the same month last year.

The increase is mainly due to the export of more salmon, trout and herring.

The export of fresh salmon nearly doubled, from NOK 22.6 million in January 2004, to NOK 40 million in January this year. The export of trout was worth NOK 15.9 million, NOK 10 million higher than in January 2004.

The total export of seafood from Norway in January was worth NOK 204 billion, an increase by NOK 116 million, or five per cent, compared with the same month last year.
