Taiwan imposes higher fine on illegal import of pork products from Singapore following ASF discovery

From February 10, those who import, bring in or ship in pork products from Singapore into Taiwan will be fined NT$200,000 (US$6,613) for the first offence, Taiwan's Central Emergency Operation Centre said.

This came after Singapore recently detected African swine fever (ASF) in a wild boar carcass in the city-state.

Taiwan has named all Southeast Asian countries, including Singapore, as high-risk areas for ASF since 2019, according to Focus Taiwan. Those caught bringing in pork products from Singapore previously faced a fine of NT$10,000 (US$330) before the latest revision.
