Vietnam to announce commercial use of ASF vaccines

Vietnam's commercial use of African swine fever (ASF) vaccines will be announced this month following om-farm trials.
On-farm trials of a ASF vaccine researched and produced by AVAC Vietnam Company have been underway since last July on the company's farms as well as on farms belonging to CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company.
The director of the Department of Animal Health, Nguyen Van Long, noted that there should be a closer assessment and that the two companies need to increase the sampling rate. However, according to Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Phung Duc Tien, with the progress of implementation and results of vaccination in the field so far, it is expected that the commercial availability and use of vaccines will be announced in February.
According to reports, by the end of last December, AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company has vaccinated 1,800 pigs against ASF on 13 farms. Sampling results showed that 94.4% met the requirements for immunity.
Results from CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company showed that pigs had no side effects after vaccination, all pigs were in normal health. Additionally, no virus was detected after 14 days of vaccination. The control herd had no antibodies while the vaccinated herd had 40% antibodies after 14 days, and 90% after 28 days.
