Turkey's statistics authority TurkStat said on Friday (Feb 10) that the country produced more than seven million tonnes of milk in 2011.

TurkStat said the milk production was 4.9% up on-year in 2011 and reached 7.074 million tonnes, compared with 6.745 million tonnes in 2010.

The statistics authority also said the cheese production reached 518,850 tonnes in 2011, 9.7% up on-year, yogurt production hit 1.007 million tonnes in 2011, a 10.8% rise, and buttermilk drink amounted to 459,075 tonnes, a 15.4% increase.

In December 2011, Turkey's milk production was 10.7% up on-month, reaching 586,867 tonnes.
