*Commonly referred to in China as liquid methionine is methionine hydroxyl analogue, a liquid source of supplemental methionine.
Market analysis
Despite the recent price slash of methionine, sales increased modestly. Feed producers were reluctant to stockpile high inventories in anticipation of a weak post-festive market. Knowing that further price cuts would not stimulate demand significantly, methionine producers held prices stable.
In Europe, prices of China-produced methionine slid to the range of EUR2.44-2.50/kg.
Market forecast
Methionine market will be quiet in the coming couple of weeks as China celebrates Chinese New Year. The post-festive market is poised to remain soft with poultry feed consumption slow and methionine supplies ample.
