Brazil's Aurora to expand chicken processing, looking to boost sales to China

Brazil's Cooperativa Central Aurora Alimentos, the country's third biggest meat processor, said it will expand its chicken processing and maintain pork operations to boost sales to China and other markets, Reuters reported.

Neivor Canton, chief executive officer of Aurora, said it aims to expand its poultry capacity by 20% in two years and invest BRL 500 million (~US$93 million; BRL 1 = US$0.19) this year to reach that goal.

The company processes roughly 6,000 tonnes of animal protein per day and exports 1/3 of that total, according to the CEO.

Aurora hopes to boost its trade ties in China, which has imported more Brazilian meat as it battles with African swine fever. The company has applied for three new export permits from China, which includes its chicken plant in Santa Catarina state and its pork plant in Moto Grosso do Sul.

Aurora posted record operating sales last year thanks to strong exports.
