Norway's Seafood Council allocates US$2.9 million for joint marketing of seafood

Norway's Seafood Council has allocated NOK 30.5 million (~US$2.9 million; NOK 1 = US$0.098) for the joint marketing of Norwegian seafood around the world, Fish Information & Services reported.

The Seafood Council collaborates with seafood players to fund marketing campaigns, covering up to 50% of costs. Last year, NOK 30.2 million was awarded to 46 different companies, which resulted in 127 small and large advertising projects in 22 different countries.

Sildakongen Produksjon AS, one of the companies that has worked with the Seafood Council, used the funds primarily in the Norwegian market for taste demonstrations in stores and advertisements in digital media.

The prerequisite for co-financing marketing in Norway is that the campaign should contribute to increasing seafood consumption and Godfisk brand must be included in the project.

For overseas campaigns, corporate initiatives can be used by Norwegian actors alone or in collaboration with their customers. The prerequisite is that the campaigns market the Norwegian origin, and that the brand "Seafood from Norway" is used.

Nordlaks was one of the companies that ran several marketing projects for Norwegian salmon with its foreign customers last year.

Budgets for entrepreneurial initiatives have grown with the increase in the export value of Norwegian seafood. In previous years, the majority of the budget was spent on activities abroad, but nearly a third of the budget was spent on campaign work in Norway, with the goal of increasing domestic seafood consumption.
