Malaysia to provide US$126 million in subsidies for poultry farmers

The Malaysian government will provide subsidies to poultry farmers at an estimated total of MYR 528.52 million (~US$126 million; MYR 1 = US$0.24) to ease their burdens following rising costs especially for feed, Bernama reported.

The government will provide a subsidy of MYR 0.60 (~US$0.14) per kg of chicken and MYR 0.05 (~US$0.012) per egg for poultry farmers, taking into consideration live chicken prices at MYR 5.90 (~US$1.41) per kg and retail price of chickens at MYR 8.90 (~US$2.13) per kg, Bernama reported.

Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee, the Agriculture and Food Industries Minister, said the subsidies will be provided between February 5, 2022, to June 4, 2022 in line the government's Keluarga Malaysia Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMKM).

Kiandee also said the government subsidies will hopefully stabilise supplies and ensure that consumers would be able to purchase chicken and eggs at affordable prices.
