H5N8 bird flu reported in Algeria

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) said Algeria had reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu on a poultry farm, Reuters reported.

The OIE, citing a report from Algeria's agriculture ministry, said 50,000 birds were killed by the virus in Ain Fakroun town northeast of the country. The remaining 1,200 birds will be culled to prevent the spread of the virus.
