Italy detects swine vesicular disease outbreaks
Italian authorities have confirmed five outbreaks of swine vesicular disease within the Molise region of Campobasso Province.
The SVD-free status of Campobasso province has been withdrawn, according to reports. All animals have been slaughtered. No further movements have occurred from the four receiving holdings.
All lots are moved from the fattening farm while further testing is still in progress. The involved holdings are located in the provinces of Campobasso and Isernia (Molise), Chieti (Abruzzo), Foggia (Puglia) and Benevento (Campania).
A possible hypothesis for the introduction of the infection includes the contamination of trucks during animal trade.
Further information will be available when testing is complete.
