Russia's 2010 poultry imports slide 32.7% on-year

In 2010, Russia imported 649,900 tonnes of poultry worth US$863.2 million, 32.7% less than the previous year, the federal customs service reported Tuesday (Feb 8).

Practically, all the poultry was imported from countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The Russian government encourages efforts to increase domestic poultry output, and a considerable amount of investment has gone into poultry production in the last couple of years, resulting in increased domestic output and shrinking imports.
