John Morrell to halt hog processing operations at Iowa, US

John Morrell & Co. intends to temporarily discontinue second shift hog processing operations at its facility in Sioux City, Iowa, because of unfavourable market conditions.

The company said the closing, which is effective Feb 19, would result in layoffs of some 485 workers.

John Morrell intends to resume the operations when market conditions improve, the company said.
