Pork exports of Santa Catarina, Brazil, rose 9.3% in volume last year

Santa Catarina, Brazil, exported 658,200 tonnes of pork (fresh, processed, and offal) in 2023, up 9.3% from 2022.

Revenues totaled US$1.57 billion, an increase of 9.7% compared to 2022. These are the best results recorded since the historical series began in 1997. The positive results for this period are due to the growth in shipments to most key buyers, especially the Philippines, Chile and Japan.

While China reduced its purchases of pork from Santa Catarina last year (-21.4% in quantity and -22.6% in revenue), the country was the main destination for the meat, accounting for 34.6% of shipments.

In 2023, a total of 17.86 million pigs were produced in Santa Catarina, an increase of 2.1% compared to production in 2022. This is the largest number of pigs ever produced in the state.
