Bird flu outbreaks detected in Chiba and Miyazaki, Japan
The prefectural governments of Chiba and Miyazaki confirmed highly pathogenic bird flu strains were detected in poultry farms at their prefectures, The Japan Times reported.
1.15 million chickens are set to be culled in a farm at Tako, Chiba prefecture. This is the seventh outbreak reported in the prefecture since December 2020 and follows an outbreak confirmed at nearby Asahi city on February 6.
Another 240,000 chickens will be culled in Shintomi, Miyazaki prefecture, the 11th bird flu case at the prefecture. The affected farm is only 500m from a farm where an outbreak of the virus was confirmed in late-January.
Transport of eggs and chickens from all farms within 10km of the infected farms have been prohibited.
