Saxony, Germany sets up restriction zones to control ASF

German state Saxony has issued general decrees, establishing new restriction zones to control the spread of African swine fever (ASF).

The move came following a confirmed positive case of ASF in wild boar outside a risk area but still within a buffer zone in the district of Görlitz.

Saxony's general decrees apply to both the risk area and the buffer zone, and lays out the measures to be applied within them.

The risk area extends southward to the municipality of Horka, increasing the area from 157 square kilometers to 322 square kilometers. The buffer zone now extends to the entire district of Görlitz north of the A4, increasing from 605 square kilometers to 826 square kilometers.

There are currently 19 confirmed ASF cases in Saxony. The total number of ASF cases in Brandenburg (585 confirmed cases) and Saxony now stands at 604.

To date, domestic pig populations in Germany are free of ASF.
