Tyson's Kansas beef plant ends slaughter on February 13
The last day for cattle slaughtering at the Tyson Fresh Meat (TSN) beef plant in Emporia, Kansas, will be February 13, according to a company press release issued Wednesday (February 6).
The final carcass processing shift will be on February 15.
The company will continue to operate the plant as a value-added facility and as a cold storage and shipping unit.
The Emporia plant had a daily capacity to process about 3,800 head of cattle. The company says excess processing capacity in the industry for the number of cattle available led to its decision to close the slaughter operation at Emporia.
Tyson discontinued slaughter on one shift at Emporia last Friday, just one week after announcing its plans to restructure operations at the plant.
