FMD outbreak in pigs on Ecuador farm
Ecuador's government said Tuesday an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) occurred on a small farm in the southern province of Azuay, Brazil's Folha online reported Wednesday (Feb 7).
The report said Ecuador confirmed that FMD symptoms were found in six pigs on a small farm in Azuay that had about 120 pigs, 26 cows and 10 goats.
The World Organization for Animal Health, known as the OIE, was notified of the cases, and the government said it has taken required measures to halt the spread of the disease, according to the report.
