UK concerned over upcoming new wave of bird flu
Christine Middlemiss, the UK's chief veterinary officer, warned of a possible second surge in bird flu cases, following a rise in bird flu cases in both commercial and backyard farms across the country, Yahoo! News UK reported.
The total cases are now three times higher compared to 2020/2021.
The officer said they have taken quick action to stop the spread of bird flu including the introduction of new housing regulations for domestic poultry.
Three bird flu outbreaks have been confirmed in Cumbria county, northwest England in the past few months in the Copeland, Aspatria, and Lazonby areas.
A 3km protection zone and 10km surveillance zone surrounding the affected Copeland and Aspatria locations has recently been lifted.
