Ukraine to resow up to 2.5-3 million ha winter crops
Due to heavy frosts, Ukraine is likely to resow winter crops throughout the areas of about 2.5-3 million ha in the current year, informed Alexander Sen, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, on February 2.
According to A. Sen, some regions faced the decrease of air temperatures to the level of 30°C below zero. At the same time, Odessa, Lugansk, Kharkiv, Zaporozhye and other southern and eastern oblasts showed very little snow covering.
It will be possible to assess the condition of winter crops sowings and the preliminary damage after the increase of temperature indices only, said A. Sen.
The Deputy Minister also said that the Ministry also continues working out the structure of crop sowings, which will prevent any losses of grains.
According to him, in particular, corn will take the significant place in the structure of the spring resowing works. The sowing areas under barley and soy will be also increased.
As a reminder, previously the Ministry of Agrarian Policy forecasted resowing of winter grains in the current year throughout nearly two million ha from almost 8.4 million ha of the general sowing areas, due to adverse weather conditions prevailing last autumn and early winter.
As of January 26, winter grain sowings did not sprout up throughout 15.3%, or nearly 1.3 million ha.
