Iran has no wheat exports this year
There will be no wheat exports for Iran this year, according to Mehr News Agency.
Instead the country will focus on exporting wheat and flour goods and products with greater added value, said Akbar Sharifi, advisor to the Government Trading Corporation of Iran.
The private sector has to purchase the wheat it needs from domestic sources and imports to increase the manufacturing of wheat and flour related products.
On December 13, the managing director of Iran's State Commercial Company said that about five million tonnes of wheat was added to the country's strategic reserves. Abbas Qobadi told the Fars news agency that 5.38 million tonnes of wheat has been purchased by the company and over US$2 billion has been paid to farmers.
