Poland discovers new case of mad cow disease
Poland has discovered a new case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), or mad cow disease.
"The disease was detected in a cow from a herd in Krzemieniec," in western Poland, the head of the national veterinary service, Krzysztof Jazdzewski said.
"The entire 262-head herd has been isolated. Any cows that were in contact with the infected cow will be slaughtered," he said.
The case is the 22nd since Poland began testing for BSE in 2001, Jazdzewski said.
