Rise in US' December 2022 poultry production

US poultry production was up last December.
The United States Department of Agriculture said 4.32 billion pounds of poultry were certified as wholesome last month, an increase of 3% on the year. That was due to a 4% rise in chicken to 3.893 billion pounds due to higher processing pace and mostly heavier live weights, while cancelling out a 3% decline in turkey production to 414.216 million pounds with a slower slaughter rate and mostly lower live weights.
The preliminary 2022 US poultry production total was 52.132 billion pounds, 2% more than 2021, with the final numbers out in April.
The USDA's next set of annual poultry production projections is out February 8.
