More raw chicken products recalled in Ireland supermarkets due to salmonella

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has recalled a number of raw chicken products as a precautionary measure due to the possible presence of salmonella, The Irish Times reported.

This recall is related to Ireland's Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine's ongoing investigation into salmonella infections in a number of broiler flocks.

So far, no confirmed cases of human illness have been linked to the investigation. However, the FSAI advises consumers who may have affected products at home not to consume them.

Chicken breast fillets, chicken breast mini fillets, and small Irish chickens sold in Aldi, Dunnes Stores, Lidl, and Tesco supermarkets are among the products being recalled.

In its ongoing investigation into the spread of salmonella among broiler flocks, the FSAI is collaborating with the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine, and additional testing is being conducted.

Dr Pamela Byrne, chief executive of the FSAI, advised people not to consume the products and reminded consumers that raw chicken should always be handled hygienically to prevent cross contamination, and ready-to-eat food and raw chicken should never be washed.
