Jordan buys 150,000 tonnes of wheat

Jordan's Ministry of Trade and Industry has purchased 150,000 tonnes of wheat for April's delivery.

The official said the kingdom bought some 100,000 tonnes of wheat from Glencore International PLC at two different prices. Some 50,000 tonnes were bought at US$320/tonne C&F, while the remaining 50,000 tonnes were purchased at US$321.50/tonne C&F. Both shipments would be delivered at the first half of April, the official told Dow Jones Newswires.

Jordan also bought another 50,000 tonnes of wheat from Noble at US$318.69/tonne C&F for delivery during the second half of April, he said.

The purchases were the outcome of a tender of 100,000 tonnes which closed Wednesday (Feb 1).

The official also said four other companies, including Cargill Inc., United Grains Company, Bunge Ltd. (BG) and Toepfer also submitted offers but they were rejected because their prices were higher than the ones accepted.
