Australian beef exports make a positive start to Japan

Australian beef exports to Japan made a good start to 2007, with the second highest volume shipped for January, at 23,315 tonnes swt.

This was assisted by high cattle turnoff and beef production at the end of 2006.

Beef exports to Japan eased in January from last month but increased by 29 percent compared with the same month last year, per reports by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF).

Frozen products increased 42 percent on Jan 2006 levels, to 12,245 tonnes. Chilled beef went up by 17 percent above last year levels, at 11,070 tonnes.
