Smithfield, Premium Standard certify antitrust compliance

Smithfield Foods and Premium Standard Farms have each certified substantial compliance with the second request from the US Justice Department's antitrust division for information on Smithfield's pending US$810-million acquisition of Premium Standard.

Smithfield, a Smithfield, Virginia, pork products company, and Premium Standard, a Kansas City, hog farm operator, agreed to give the antitrust division 60 days from substantial compliance to review the deal and another 30 days thereafter if needed.
