Brazil to harvest more than 300 million tonnes of cereals in 2024/25

Brazilian farmers are expected to harvest 322.3 million tonnes of cereals in the 2024/25 season.

The result is equivalent to a growth of 8.2% (+24.5 million tonnes) compared to the previous harvest.

The new estimate from the National Supply Company (CONAB) maintains its forecast for record production if the result is confirmed. The good performance is due to the favorable weather during the growth of the first crop. In addition, the total planted area was estimated at 81.4 million hectares and is expected to increase by 1.8%, compared to the 2023/24 season.

The main product grown in the country, soybeans, is expected to see a production of 166.33 million tonnes, 18.61 million tonnes above the total produced in the previous harvest. After a year of poor harvests, the current season tends to recover average crop productivity.

An average yield of 3,509 kg/ha is expected for this season, compared to 3,201 kg/ha in 2023/24. Oilseed planting occurred in a concentrated manner, mainly from the end of October. Harvesting should therefore also take place for the most part starting the end of January. Weather conditions in the period analysed have been favoring the harvest so far, but CONAB is still alert to the effects of weather behavior, until the end of the harvest.

With the second largest production volume, corn is expected to reach a total crop of 119.6 million tonnes in 2024/25, 3.3% more than the previous season.

For the first crop, a 6.4% reduction in planted area is expected.

On the other hand, average productivity is expected to increase by 4.8% to 6,062 kg/ha. Frequent rains interspersed with sunny periods favored crop development in the main producing regions. As a result, a harvest of 22.53 million tonnes is expected. Planting of the second and third harvests of the grain will begin this month and April, respectively.
