Honduras maintains FMD-free status

Honduras has managed to maintain its status as a country free of foot and mouth disease (FMD), according to official confirmation from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).

This certification, granted by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), recognises the work and rigorous epidemiological surveillance protocols implemented by the National Agrifood Health and Safety Service (Senasa) of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG).

FMD affects cattle, pigs, and sheep and its eradication is crucial to protect production and facilitate access to international markets.

The review conducted between 2022 and 2024 evaluated the control and surveillance measures, confirming that Honduras has no evidence of the disease.
