China's Yurun Group to propagate PIC pig breed

PIC China Co. Ltd has signed an agreement with Suihua's Dazhong Co. Ltd for 500 breeding pigs, marking PIC Co's inaugration of its new meat-processing plant in China's Northern-eastern regions.

Suihua's Dazhong Meat Co. is a subsidiary of Yurun Group, the largest meat processor in China's north-east region. Its slaughter capacity is at 1 million heads annually.

With financial backing from Yurun roup and PIC Group, Suihua Dazhong Co. Ltd plans to operate a series of meat processing lines and increase the number of PIC's cross breed pigs to a herd size of 300,000 heads within the next five years.

The item has been listed as a major project by Jilin's local government.

Meanwhile, PIC China has also signed a contract to export 300 heads of grandparent boars and 15 heads of breeding sows to North Korea last month.

PIC introduced its swine breed to Yanbian Kangrun Co. Ltd and exported breeding pigs to North Korea's Gaoli Co. Ltd. The initiative has been looked upon as a major project in North Korea. North Korea's Gaolin Co. Ltd is run by North Korea's Ministry of Commerce, which supplies state-owned retail establishments, restaurants and hotels.

The first batch of 300 breeding pigs form the first shipment of the project. A total of 1,500 heads of PIC breed swine would be introduced.

This project is significant as it would help North Korea in gaining self sufficiency with regards to pork products, said the company.
