Aviagen veterinarian recognised as "Future Leader"
Aviagen veterinarian Dr. Sara Reichelt was recognised as a "Future Leader" by the American Association of Avian Pathologists (AAAP) during the 2019 American Veterinary Medical Association's (AVMA's) Veterinary Leadership Conference, the company said.
Dr. Reichelt was selected based on her proven leadership abilities and long list of academic and professional accomplishments.
A recent graduate of the North Carolina State University veterinary programme, Dr. Reichelt earned undergraduate degrees in zoology and poultry science, as well as a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2017. December marked one and a half years since she joined Aviagen as an associate veterinarian, overseeing the health, biosecurity and welfare of the company's grandparent broiler breeding stock.
Alongside her work responsibilities, Dr. Reichelt's portfolio of professional memberships include membership into the AAAP, Breeder Representative for the Animal Welfare Committee, and Liaison for the AAAP Board of Directors.
She was also the chair-elect of the AAAP Membership Committee for 2020, committee member of the Public Trust Task Force and founding member of the AAAP Women's Network.
For the Women's Network, Dr. Reichelt is a Facebook administrator, and is actively involved in professional development for the women. In addition, she was a recent guest at the AAAP Board of Directors Strategic Planning Meeting to help give a voice to the younger members of the AAAP.
"Sara is a great representation of AAAP through her professionalism, charisma, and passion for our great profession," said Dr. Kate Hayes, Aviagen's production programme veterinarian. "She is passionate about animal welfare and consumer education, and interacts daily with team members to educate and lead. This opportunity will allow her to further develop her natural leadership skills and expand her professional network."
Aviagen is a long-time supporter of the AVMA and AAAP. After completing a term on the AAAP Board of Directors, Aviagen North America's vice president of veterinary services Dr. Eric Jensen became the association's newly elected president elect for 2019-2020.
Aviagen and the AAAP also share a common goal of promoting the health, well-being and productivity of poultry for today and the future, and regularly make available the latest scientific research and knowledge to benefit the poultry industry.
