US grain sector to be more aggressive in Indian market

The US Grains Council (USGC) announced to assist India's growing commercial poultry processing sector with strategic consumer marketing efforts, said GrainNet.

USGC director of international operations Chris Corry said there are more and more retail markets in India right now, similar to grocery stores in the US.

Corry pointed that this shift is due mainly to a growing population, of which nearly two-thirds depend on agriculture for their livelihood.

Indian poultry farmers who ventured to commercial poultry were seeing more profitable opportunity due in large part with the US assistance on consumer marketing efforts, Amit Sachdev, USGC consultant in India, said.

India produces roughly 600 million bushels of corn annually, which is not enough to sustain a growing population, as the country needs to import feed grains. The USGC is working to ensure the feed grains will come from US producers, Corry explained.
