Bulgaria confirms bird flu and African swine fever outbreak
The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) said it has confirmed an avian influenza outbreak in the Haskovo region and an African swine fever (ASF) outbreak at Petrich municipality, Blagoevgrad district, The Sofia Globe reported.
Bird flu was discovered at a breeding side for laying hens in Brod village, Dimitrovgrad municipality. Sick and contact birds will be culled. About 4000 hens are raised at the site.
A 3km radius protection zone and a 10km observation zone has been declared around the farm.
BFSA also detected an ASF outbreak in Kavrakirovo village, Petrich municipality, Blagoevgrad district. Five swine were raised at the farm, which be culled.
Protection and observation zones have been declared, and an investigation is underway at surrounding swine farms to identify the source of infection.
