Serbian pig farm struck by AH1N1 flu
The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) has reported a new outbreak of AH1N1 flu at a commercial pig farm in Serbia.
The Serbian veterinary authorities sent an immediate notification to OIE on 25 January 2010. According to the report, the outbreak started on January 18 at a commercial pig farm in Rasinski county.
The disease had been detected on a commercial pig breeding farm during regular epidemiological control performed by the veterinary inspection.
The affected animals showed respiratory signs of the disease and therefore, samples were taken and sent to the laboratory for further investigation. The source of infection is unknown.
The two tests conducted to confirm the disease were gene sequencing and real-time PCR.
