Central Java, Indonesia, delivers first shipment of frozen shrimp to Australia
The acting governor of Central Java, Indonesia, Nana Sudjana, recently flagged off an export consignment of 20 tonnes of frozen shrimp to Melbourne, Australia, marking the province's first export of the commodity to the country.
"This is Central Java's first frozen shrimp export to Australia. This is a good thing for our export-import climate," Sudjana said after a send-off event at a warehouse belonging to PT Sumber Samudera Indonesia in Semarang, Central Java, last week.
He noted that Central Java's marine resources are quite abundant and diverse. Therefore, the province has a positive impact on the fulfillment of the local community's needs for food sources and nutrition. He also said that fisheries and marine commodities are still found in excess so they can become mainstay export commodities.
According to Sudjana, the province's fishery and marine product performance has been very positive. In 2023, the export volume of fishery and marine products reached approximately 78,800 tonne. The volume of exports last year reflected a 23.57% increase compared to 2022.
In 2023, the 10 main export destinations for Central Java's fishery and marine products were China, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, the United States, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Thailand. The main export commodities included Portunidae meat, squid, shrimp and Layur (largehead hairtail) fish.
"We would like to thank PT Sumber Samudera Indonesia and other companies that have carried out exports with good performance," Sudjana said. He expressed the hope that the company will not only improve the economy through export activities, but also generate benefits for the people, especially those living around the company.
