H5N8 bird flu detected in Beijing, China

China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has detected the highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu at Old Summer Palace in Haidian district, Beijing, which has resulted in three wild swans dead, Global Times reported.

This is the third reported H5N8 outbreak among wild swans in the country in the last three months, after Shanxi province in November and Shandong province on January 19.

The ministry said they have disinfected the surrounding area where the infection was detected, with all dead animals handled properly.
